Earth Markets: Official Agreement Between Tuscany and Lebanon Signed in Beirut

Tuesday April 27 the Earth Market of Beirut-Hamra hosted a group of producers belonging to three Tuscan Earth Markets who went to Lebanon to present their products (extra-virgin olive oil, wines, pecorino cheese, bottarga) and to sign and International agreement.
The agreement involves the Tuscan and Lebanese Earth Markets together with Slow Food Tuscany and Slow Food Beirut and was officially signed on April 29 at Horeka, the most important fair for the Middle Eastern hotel, restaurant and catering industry, held annually in Beirut, Lebanon.
To underline the importance of such an agreement, representatives of Lebanese and Italian Institutions attended the ceremony: the Italian Ambassador in Beirut, the Managing Director of ICE (Italian Institute for Foreign Trade), the Managing Director of the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture together with representatives of the Tusca Regional Government, the Municipality of Montevarchi (where the first Earth Market was established), the Ngo Ucodep, the Italian Cooperation and the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity.
The main objective of the agreement is a constant cooperation and assistance among Tuscan and Lebanese Earth Markets to be realized trough exchange of experience and common initiatives of promotion.
From April 27-30 Horeka also feature a large area managed by Slow Food Beirut and entirely dedicated to quality small scale producers of Tuscan and Lebanese Presidia and Earth Markets: the Tuscan Earth Markets of San Miniato, Porcari and Montevarchi took part at the event together with Orbetello Bottarga and Tuscan Sea Palamita Presidia.
A special place was reserved to Atelier Gourmand, where several Terra Madre chefs prepared traditional as well as creative dish every day: from Tuscany came Francesca Cianchi, from Bistrot del Mondo, Salvatore Toscano, osteria Mangiando Mangiando of Greve in Chianti and Simone Rugiati, young chef for Gambero Rosso Channel, but the Italian cuisine was also represented by multi-starred chef Ciccio Sultano (chef and owner of Il Duomo Restaurant in Siracusa, Sicily), Alessandra Spinsi and her daughter
Stefania Canaliccio (Vecchia Scuola Bolognese, Emilia-Romagna). While the Lebanese hosts were Joe Barza, chef of The Chase and Walid Ataya, chef of Bread Republic and president of Slow Food Beirut.
The participation of Slow Food Beirut at Horeca was made possible thanks to the support of the ROSS Programme of the Italian Cooperation and the support of the Tuscany Regional Government, Ucodep Ngo, ICU and the valuable help of the Italian Embassy in Beirut.
